Following Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) discovery of operators using AdBlue cheat devices and subsequent O Licence loses it is worth for vehicle operators to review their current AdBlue practices. Whilst it is clear that the cases highlighted by DVSA and covered in industry press demonstrate deliberate evasion of AdBlue system and attempt to gain competitive advantage through cheating, it is worth for every operator to review their process and ask themselves a question of transparency in this area.

In particular when buying second hand vehicles it is essential to complete thorough pre use safety inspection which will give the operator confidence that no cheat devices are fitted to vehicle in question.

It would also go a long way to keep AdBlue usage records for specific vehicle which is supported by invoices of purchase of AdBlue and adequate to diesel usage. It demonstrates good practice and shows transparency also enabling operators keep closer look on the cost of running specific vehicles. Needless to say that this is a requirement of FORS accredited operators under Fuel, Emissions and Air Quality
