Code 23 – Security Breach

Code 23 indicates a security breach event. It is triggered when there is an authentication failure between the motion sensor and the digital tachograph unit (DTCO) during operation, or if an error occurs during the pairing procedure.

Why does this happen?

This is a technical system event rather than a driver error. It typically occurs due to:
– An authentication error between the motion sensor and the DTCO during vehicle operation.
– A temporary data transmission error.
– Exceeding the coupling limit with the KITAS 4.0 sensor (the pairing function automatically blocks for security reasons after three failed coupling attempts).

Important details to note
– Persistent warnings: Like other critical technical events, this error message will be displayed on the DTCO screen hourly until the underlying cause is resolved.
– No workshop card required for viewing: Drivers and fleet managers can acknowledge and view this warning message directly on the screen without inserting a workshop card.
– Calibration mode handling: This event is not saved in the mass memory if it occurs while the device is operating in Calibration mode.
– System monitoring: This event is actively monitored immediately after the DTCO 4.1x unit is activated.

What should drivers and fleet managers do?

Because Code 23 points to an encryption, pairing, or hardware communication issue, it requires technical troubleshooting. The vehicle should be inspected at an authorized tachograph centre to ensure system integrity and regulatory compliance.
Reset the pairing process: If a workshop card is being used, eject it and re-insert it to re-authenticate the card, then repeat the sensor coupling procedure.
Check the hardware and wiring: Inspect the KITAS 4.0 sensor line and the sensor itself, paying specific attention to the DTCO 4.1x input (B4).
Re-pair using diagnostic tools: Use an authorized test device to properly pair the KITAS 4.0 sensor with the DTCO 4.1x.
Replace faulty components: If transmission errors persist, replace any defective cables or components to restore proper security authentication.
