This code means that the tachograph card inserted in slot 1 (driver card) cannot be detected, read, or written.
In simple terms — the unit is not able to communicate with the driver card.
Common causes:
• Card inserted incorrectly
• Dirty or contaminated card contacts
• Faulty driver card
• Dirty or worn card slot contacts
What should the driver do?
Remove and re-insert the card correctly (chip facing up, fully inserted)
Check the card for visible dirt or damage
Gently clean the chip using a soft, dry cloth
Try another driver card (if available) to confirm whether the issue is with the card or the unit
If the issue continues:
• The card may be defective
• The tachograph unit or card reader may require inspection
At this point, the vehicle should be referred to an approved tachograph centre for proper diagnosis.
